Free Agents hand DE-TROIT! loss, win on last second lay-in as time expires

Kerie Edmead and company have continued to show improvement since day one of the summer competitive division.

Heavily favored to win the contest and posed to defeat the challengers, DE-TROIT! failed to attack late in Sunday’s action.

Edmead and Bloomquist scored a combined 56 total points for the Free Agents in the victory.

Down by five points Chris Smith hit back-to-back layins to bring the game within reach.

Drey Thomas finished with a team high 26 points and five rebounds in the first loss of the season.

Too many forced shots and turnovers by the DE-TROIT! guards gave way to the Free Agents easy opportunities in transition. MFA capitalized on the slow transition defense and hit open treys beyond the arc to keep DE-TROIT! at bay.

As the game went down to the final seconds, MFA, in-bounded the ball and found a streaking Kyle Kelley for the lay-in. Committing the foul on the attempt was Alexi Waul, resulting in the plus +1 and securing the Free Agents first win of the season.

*Correction: MFA 4.0 has a record of 2 – 3 for the summer season 2010*

DE-TROIT! had the opportunities down the stretch but blown assignments was the biggest factor in the defeat.

MFA proved that a team of make shift individuals can win by any means with the right chemistry.

Player(s) of the Game

Byron Bloomquist – 29 points, 13 rebounds

Kerie Edmead – 27 points, 11 rebounds

Only players in double digits, great one-two combination in late game situations
