Power Rankings: Men Division [09.05.09]

Time is of essence in the Hoopz World. So far this season we’ve seen a few guys hit near triple doubles, average a double-double, a couple of thunderous dunks and Kobe drop by and to say ‘whatsup’ and now we are approaching the summer playoffs. A few teams have added players, while others have been spotted practicing at local LA parks. Whatever the dynamic teams understand the significance of winning and the lessons involved.

All teams are heading into the second half of the season looking to reposition their standings. Based on the power rankings teams will be grouped in the playoff format. The playoff schedule will be released September 19th.

Check out the Power Rankings and see where your All Star is listed below:

6) Hoop Dreams, 0 – 6

The record speaks for itself for this team. Players come ready to play but run out of gas halfway through the first period. With limited star power, Joseph Tucker is doing a good job averaging 16.3 ppg and 2.0 rpg playing both ends. However the real strength of the team will need to come from other members like Ted Hall 12.0 ppg and 10.7 rpg is the only other bright spot for Hoop Dreams. As mentioned this is a team that needs star power on both ends of the floor when the playoff begin September 27th for the summer session.

Team Leaders:

Joseph Tucker 16.3 PPG

Ted Hall 10.7 RPG

Chris Lang 2.3 APG

Hoop Dreams versus Bru Dogs

5) GITYL [Give It To You Later], 2 – 4

The return of David Miller was a big lift for a team averaging 3.5 ppg [players per game]. Yep, that’s 3.5 Hoopz World. Players go down hard in competition and return with a vengeance to help lead a way to victory. Just ask Vincent Borquez, the ‘Iron Man‘ of the summer. Borquez 8.0 ppg and 6.8 rpg are Charles Oakley numbers while teammate Dan Zinchuk is leading the league in PPG and RPG. The roster is stack with potential but can this team bring it all together to challenge the ‘elites’ to take the gold cup? GITYL are this summer’s ‘dark horse’ squad that has all the key elements to win despite the limited players.

Team Leaders:

Dan Zinchuk 29.4 PPG

Dan Zinchuk 15.0 RPG, 3.6 SPG

David Miller 4.5 APG

4) MFA 1.0 [Men Free Agents 1.0], 2 – 5

Trail blazer, Gene Shepard is having a spectacular season going into the second half. As the team leader in points, rebounds and assists Shepard can do it all. Cory Aycock has emerged as the ‘the Robin’ of MFA 1.0 with 8.2 ppg, 5.8 rpb, 1.7 spg.

3) MFA 2.0, 4 – 3

Big man needed. Lacking the size and strength to keep pace with the elites is no problem for this team. The up-tempo style of play has provided many victories this season but will the ‘showtime era’ be enough to take the cup? Steven Williams has proven he belongs in the conversation of great Hoopz players. Averaging Shawn Marion type numbers, Williams has helped dictated the pace needed to compete on all levels. Add a ‘Coach’ and a ‘Junior’ to the mix and the doubts are blown out the window. Now if only they can get all the players to show for each game. Tune in Hoopz World … MFA 2.0 … is on the prowl.

Next Game:

MFA 2.0 versus GITYL

2)
Bru Dogs, 5 – 1

Playing the second half last week without floor general, Tony Ngo, the Dogs still managed to withstand the late minute barrage from MFA 1.0. Modern day Spurs yes. Mediocre play down the stretch, nope thanks to Doche and Schmoller. Throw-in Ken Vudmaska and they have the receipt for late game dominance. Look for the Dogs to be in the Finals if they can within stand the run & gun style play in the Hoopz League.

Next Game:

Bru Dogs versus Hoop Dreams

1)
Usual Suspects, 6 – 0
Playing to their own tune, these guys know how to win and win big. Starters can dominate from the opening tip and the stellar bench helps anchor the load out scoring opponents on any given night. Alexander Cuba has been the league leader in assists all season, thanks to strong player personnel on both the wings and the post. Carlyle Holiday maybe the secret weapon, think he learned a trick or two while playing football? Averaging a near double-double for the season is by far a modest accomplishment. Look for Holiday and Cuba to be in the winners circle if others don’t adapt to their dominate style of play the remainder of the season.
