Chris Anderson into the scoring record column

August 3rd, 2011 by Dr Hoopz

Chris Anderson into the scoring record column

Men’s Free Agents are here to stay. Anderson tallies 57 points in the victory over opposing Agents.

Check out with Chris Anderson did on both ends of the floor.

20/28 for .714% FG

3/ 5 for .600% 3PT

14/15 for .933% FT

Total 57 points, 3 ORB, 1 DRB, 1 Foul in 40 minutes of action.

Anderson now sits atop the men’s league with the most points scored in a game and for the recreational division.

To fully understand what Anderson did in a full forty minute game, the entire team of Bring It On was out performed. Anderson outscored the entire team of BIO and into the LA HOOPZ record books for a offensive display of the ages.

Could it have been the jersey? Wearing the #2 jersey has always been a lucky number, since yours truly don’s the goods, Dr. Hoopz.

Move over Dan Zinchuk company is on the way, MFA’s finest veteran, Chris Anderson.

Congratulations!

Summer season weekend action | Big Winners

August 2nd, 2011 by Dr Hoopz

Summer season weekend action | Big Winners

TOP NEWS: Players that have outstanding balances will forefit eligibility to compete in the playoffs. See your nearest Hoopz Staff member for complete details. Teams and players missing jersey or failing to check in prior to the contest will be  a technical foul.

Will Kieffer drops two points on the Bring It On defense

The summer season is here and boy was it entertaining.

The purple jerseys put the men in full swing, forget about the ‘L’ word and let them play elsewhere, but here the men came to represent. Jordan Rush, Chris Anderson, Gene Shepherd, Zach Ellis and the likes came to please after the summer vacation.

Happy to return and destined for greatness, America’s Favorite Basketball League is back in full swing.

Also Hoopz World let’s give the LeBron Foundation a huge thank you for donating the beautiful scoring clock. Visit the LeBron James Family Foundation for more details.

Here are the summer tip-off recaps.

Weekend Scores [stats available 8/3]

MFA 8.0 – 84 v MFA 7.0 – 57; POG | Chris Anderson; 57 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist in the win

WestSide Ballers 64 v GITYL 54; POG | Vontae Armstrong; 30 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals in the win. Once a hero in the recreational division, now a go-to-guy in the competitive men’s division.

MBAllers – 51 v MYMP (Make Ya Momma Proud) – 41; POG | Jakob; 15 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in the win

Raw Warriors – 80 v DE-TROIT! – 74; POG | Jordan Rush; 17 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block in the win. Early and often RW went to Rush, defended against Larry Johnson, and scored easy buckets. Once teammates now rivals, Johnson and Rush, look to stay atop their divisions. [pictured center]

Chipping in for DE-TROIT! was Chris Smith 15 points and three assists in the loss.

Suspects make lunch meat outta Bring It On

Usual Suspects  – 108

Bring it On – 40

Usual Suspects terrorize Bring It On right from the start. The combination of Mark Jones and Will Kieffer has been the focal point for this group. Since the inaugural season the combo has overpowered and out skilled other big men. In addition, the return of Carlyle Holiday to the mix was a big surprise as the competition gets tighter.

Bring It On must have forgotten to bring something, okay pretty lame, but so was their play. Down by as many as twenty points in the first half, Bring It On, may reconsider a name change.

Leading the pack was three point specialist James Ellison 18 points, but only managed to shot .259% from the field.

POG | - Mark Janetta; 30 points, 4 assists, 2 steals and made 8 3pt field goals in the win (a game of the ages)

Jose Acumabig #38 defends against the MBAllers in the recreational division

Champs fall in opener to possible replacement Armada squad

The Armada – 81

Hoop Dreams | Reality – 71

Team captain’s Jesse Tyler and Joesph Tucker know each other all too well. Both players knew what was at steak, a potential lead in the head-to-head match up.

The Armada came out firing it up from beyond the arc to take the early lead and never looked back.

Aaron Watson of Hoop Dreams kept it close finishing with 32 points, 10 rebounds and shot .684% from the field.

Despite the lack of depth at the point guard and missing Mr. 57 (Chris Anderson), Hoop Dreams never stood a chance against the seasoned vet play of Chris Freemen in the post. Freemen added 21 points and nine rebounds in the win.

Back to the drawing board for the Recreational Division Champs, Hoop Dreams.

POG | Jesse Tyler; 23 points, 5 rebounds and a perfect 7 – 7 from the free throw line

Team chemistry is key, as No Mercy defeats HOV with late game heroics

No Mercy – 63

HOV – 46

Do we all remember the President’s Day spectacle? A great game but it sent the message.

No Mercy will defend its title to all teams in the competitive division. House of Vibe is coming close to earning that first victory over No Mercy but it wasn’t this night.

Leading early thanks to Josh Hover spectacular shooting, House of Vibe took an early lead 20 – 15 in the first half.

Hover finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.

Late arriving Moses proved that a full game is not needed to post a double-double. Moses entered the game raw from the start, no stretching or warm-up shots and still managed to shoot .636% on 7 – 11 from the field.

A strange game from the start but a familiar result at the end as No Mercy pulled away to defeat the HOV by seventeen points.

POG | Moses; 17 points, 11 rebounds, 1 steal and perfect from beyond the arc and free throw line.

LEAGUE NOTES: All players be sure to arrive early prior to the tip-off to prevent delay. A technical foul will be assessed to the tardy team and play will commence shortly after. Playerz and Fanz be sure to keep the facility clean for our next event. For questions or concerns see your nearest Hoopz Staff member.

Summer Season | July 31st Begins

June 17th, 2011 by Dr Hoopz

Summer Season | July 31st Begins

The time has returned for the best basketball league in SoCal, Los Angeles Hoopz, men’s league!

It has been two years since we started the league in 2009 with the idea of having a place for ”the boyz” to hoop.
Now we are pushing forward into the 2011 preparing for the July 10th summer season.

Last season we added a new division, the recreational, which was won by the team that everyone loved to play the inaugural season. Tristan Marin and Joseph Tucker had a vision, Hoop Dreams, and now we can call them champions of ’11.

Gene Shepherd began his career on MFA 1.0 playing with eventual teammate, Cory Aycock, and both became the first ever back-to-back champions of the men’s league. Each has also earned a special hoopz nickname; Gene “the Beast” Shepherd and Cory “Robin” Aycock.

Two years in the making and now we are steam rolling into another competitive, recreational, and women’s division that will be promising as the previous year.

Teams get ready as the Tru Ballerz look to defend the title. Watch out for The Armada as they will return with a vengence. What happen to Pippen Ain’t Easy? Who will earn that name of the ages? GITYL will they return to the promise land?

These and other questions will be answered beginning July 10th 2011 in Venice.

Congratulations on another successful season and wishing everyone a safe Independence holiday.

**First person: I would like to thank everyone for taking time and consideration to play and participate in my league. I love each and everyone that has given the league so much dedication. Thank you and we will continue to grow; and take over the city “one basketball at a time.” This is your’s truly, Dr. Hoopz!**

FINALS ROUND RESULTS*

Game One – No Mercy falls to Ballerz, 67 – 73

Winning game one by a late free throws and turnovers by No Mercy, Tru Ballerz held on to win 73 – 67 over No Mercy.

Playing like a man possessed, Eze Burts, held keep Mercy in control. Tallying a stretch scoring eight straight points with 8:40 remaining in the second half, Burts was on fire.

Adding the punch to the smaller lineup of No Mercy, was league MVP Mark Wilson, soaring to the cup, draining trifectas and mid-range jumpers.

Burts and Wilson had a one-on-one offensive battle for the ages. Going head-to-head scoring on multiple opportunities.

In the defeat Burts finished the game with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 1 block. While Wilson held a steady 25 points in the game one victory

Ballerz led 1 – 0, best of three series

Game Two – MFA 6.0 earn first Finals victory to tie the series, 1 -1, over Hoop Dreams

As if winning game one of the Recreational Championship series wasn’t enough, Joseph Tucker, pull the cat outta the bag.

Not to be outdone was the Slient Assassin, Justin Gold, knocking down jumpers and grabbing boards like Leroy Smith.

Series Tied, 1 – 1, best of three series

Game Three – Ballerz defeat Mercy in dramatic fashion, earn first championship

The question that began game two, similar to where’s Waldo? Where was Burts in the finale? Staying true to the name Tru held their opponents main threat to seven total points. The suffocating defense by Mr. Nigeria proved to be the determining factor as DaJuan Sweed chipped in with 14 points and 5 rebounds.

Winter season MVP, Gene Shepherd, had a game to remember scoring mostly in the post shooting 13/22 and earning three steals. As they call him “the Beast,” Shepherd was able to work the referees into drawing fouls and getting to the cup at ease.

Ballerz win series, 2 – 0, best of three series

Game Four – Hoop Dreams | Revived Champions, nuff said, over the Agents in a close contest

The elusive play of Chis Anderson, league vet, helped earn the recreational first champions. Anderson has played every season and possession like the last of eternity.

Joseph Tucker and Moses Davenport chased the ball for 50/50 rebounds and gathering open jumpers as time wound down.

Leading 55 – 52 with 6:25 remaining in the second half, the combination of Anderson and Aaron Watson determined who would be carrying the gold cup.

Watson finished with 15 points and 4 rebounds; and a huge three to push the lead to one point in the final minutes of regulation.

Hoop Dreams | Revived win series, 2 – 1, best of three series
