Position: City League Commissioner

Supervisor: Hoopz League Commissioner
Job Description: Individual will be responsible for the daily management of Los Angeles Hoopz, LLC League.  Oversee players, personnel and data files for seasonal games.  Some seasons will require hiring, managing staff and coordinating activities of all league divisions with the Hoopz League headquarters.
Job Detail: Maintain a positive attitude and help expand the Hoopz League community.  Arrive (30) minutes prior to tip-off scheduled games and keep the facility organized for fans, players and personnel. Incumbent will have the ability to perform other staffing operations in officiating, stats and journalism during the season.  Have proficient knowledge in coordinating, scheduling and managing games based on Hoopz League policies.  Have a proficient knowledge of the game of basketball rules and regulations according to the NCAA format.  Keep files, stats and season documents in order for Hoopz League analysis.  Perform all other job related duties as assigned by League Commissioner.
Experience: Previous experience in management or organizing sporting events.  Not required but preferred.  Incumbent will have knowledge in writing news, sports or entertainment articles thus acting as a journalist when applicable for the city league.  Professional attitude and respect for players, officials and fans. Understanding of handling scorekeeping duties for Hoopz League. Have a valid Social Security Number and driver’s license.  Bachelor Degree or Associates Degree preferred in business, economics, history, sociology, political science, psychology, writing or biology.  Courses in science and speech are useful as well.
Pay-Rate: DOE

Position: Game Official

Job Description: Persons to officiate all divisional games for Los Angeles Hoopz, LLC basketball during regular and playoff seasons.  Some seasons will require additional games. 
Job Detail: Arrive Fifteen (15) minutes prior to tip-off of scheduled game.   Have a proficient knowledge of the game of basketball rules and regulations according to the NCAA format.  Ability to communicate effectively to scorekeeper, coaches, players and peers.  Have the ability to maintain physical stamina during multiple games per night.  Maintain a unique atmosphere to the game of basketball and operate under good judgments.  Perform all other job related duties as assigned by League Commissioner.
Experience: Previous experience officiating basketball games.  Not required but preferred.  Have a valid Social Security Number and driver's license.
Pay-Rate: $13.00 per game

Experience: Previous experience of statistician duties.  Not required but preferred.  Have a valid Social Security Number and driver's license.

Position: Journalist

Job Description: Arrive Fifteen (15) minutes prior to tip-off of scheduled game.  Write post game articles, summarizing the game outcomes based off of facts and personal assessments.  Use good judgment to write grammatically coherent material to Los Angeles Hoopz, LLC sports fans.  Have a nose for news, reporting, poise, resourcefulness, physical stamina, and emotional stability to deal with deadlines to publishing articles.
Experience: Previous experience writing news, sports or entertainment articles.  Bachelor Degree or Associates Degree preferred in business, economics, history, sociology, political science, psychology, or writing.  Courses in computer science and speech are useful as well.

Job Description: Available to individuals unable to meet financial commitments for playing seasonal games at Los Angeles Hoopz, LLC.  Position will vary within the organization based on need for individuals and job availability.  He/she will participate at all Los Angeles Hoopz, LLC events for a full season, in order to meet the financial requirements.  Los Angeles Hoopz, LLC will also sponsor certain individuals based on the need and availability for new or returning players per division.

Job Title: Program Leader - Basketball Coach

The LA Conservation Corps After School Program operates extended day academic and enrichment activities at elementary and middle schools throughout the diverse communities of Los Angeles.  Providing services to more than 4,500 children and youth daily, Program Leaders mentor and offer expanded learning and enrichment opportunities to meet the needs of students, parents, schools and communities.

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Site Supervisor and Program Coordinator, the Program Leader implements homework assistance and after-school academic enrichment  (club) activities for elementary and middle school students.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provide academic assistance to middle school students as part of comprehensive after school experience;
  • Lead enrichment activities that connects academic learning and club activity in creative, innovative and fun way;
  • Recruit and maintain minimum number of participating students (15);
  • Accurately complete and maintain rosters and daily sign-ins;
  • Attend occasional Saturday/weekday trainings;
  • Mentor and act as positive role model for student participants.

INTERESTS AND ABILITIES

We are seeking program leaders with skills in one of the following:

  • Sports – coaching and creating team activities for large groups of students
  • Organizing and running leagues

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA degree and/or currently attending college
  • Responsible, reliable, dependable, organized and professional
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with 6-8 grade youth
  • Commitment to education

COMPENSATION:

Employment Status: Contract employee
Period of Contract: 180 days of LAUSD 2008/2009 school year (traditional calendar) 
245 days of LAUSD 2008/2009 school year (year round schools)
Hours: 3:00pm – 6:00pm daily (Monday through Friday)
1:30pm-4:30pm (Tuesdays)
Compensation: $ 12 - 13 hour, no benefits
